Watermelon Lemonade with a Pinch of Sea Salt

This traditional summer drink is made by blending ripe watermelon with fresh lemon juice and a pinch of sea salt, resulting in a liquid that is both sweet and tangy. The mixture is served chilled, with a vibrant pink hue and a refreshing, slightly granular texture from the crushed fruit and dissolved salt. It captures the essence of summer in a simple, homemade beverage.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups seedless watermelon chunks ripe and juicy
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice strained
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt adjust to taste
  • 2 tablespoons honey optional, for added sweetness

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Fine-mesh sieve
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Serving jug

Method

  1. Place the watermelon chunks into the blender pitcher, ensuring they are evenly distributed and ready to be blended.
  2. Blend the watermelon on high speed until completely smooth, with no large pieces remaining. You should see a bright pink liquid with slight foam on top.
  3. Pour the blended watermelon through a fine-mesh sieve into a large mixing bowl to remove pulp and strain out any solids, pressing gently to extract as much juice as possible.
  4. Add the fresh lemon juice and sea salt to the strained watermelon juice, stirring with a spoon until the salt dissolves completely. If desired, stir in honey for extra sweetness.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a serving jug and refrigerate until thoroughly chilled, about 30 minutes. The beverage will be vibrant pink and slightly frothy on top.
  6. Serve the watermelon lemonade over ice cubes in tall glasses, garnished with a lemon wedge or a small sprig of mint if desired.

Notes

Adjust the amount of sea salt and honey based on taste preference. Use ripe, sweet watermelon for best flavor.
