Ingredients

  • 4 cups apple cider preferably unfiltered, for richer flavor
  • 2 sticks cinnamon sticks for infusion
  • 4 cloves whole cloves spice infuser optional
  • 1 large fresh apple sliced thinly

Equipment

  • Saucepan or pot
  • Wooden spoon or ladle

Method

  1. Pour the apple cider into a saucepan and set over low heat.
  2. Add the cinnamon sticks, cloves, and sliced apple to the cider. Gently nestle the spices and fruit in the liquid.
  3. Increase the heat slightly until the mixture just starts to bubble around the edges, then reduce to low and let it simmer gently.
  4. Allow the cider to simmer uncovered for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the aroma is rich and the apple slices are tender.
  5. Taste the cider and, if desired, add a splash of extra apple juice or a small dash of vanilla extract to enhance sweetness or aroma.
  6. Strain out the spice sticks, cloves, and apple slices using a slotted spoon or fine sieve to serve the clear, aromatic cider in mugs.
  7. Pour the warm, fragrant cider into cups, and enjoy the cozy, spiced aroma and comforting taste.

Notes

Adjust simmering time for a more or less intense spice flavor. Use a spice bag for easy removal of cloves, or strain out spice pieces before serving.
