Ingredients

  • 4 cups water enough to cover ingredients in the pot
  • 2 sticks cinnamon preferably whole cinnamon sticks
  • 4 cloves whole cloves optional, for extra fragrance
  • 1 orange orange peel fresh or dried, cut into strips
  • 1 cup dried pumpkin seeds for texture and aroma
  • 1 tablespoon pumpkin extract adds depth of pumpkin aroma

Equipment

  • Saucepan or small pot
  • Stirring spoon

Method

  1. Pour water into a saucepan and place it on the stove over medium heat.
  2. Add whole cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and orange peel into the water. These aromatics will start to release their scents as the water warms up, producing a fragrant aroma even before it begins to simmer.
  3. Stir in the dried pumpkin seeds and pumpkin extract, distributing them evenly in the water for a balanced infusion of scent and texture.
  4. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, watching as small bubbles form and the entire space fills with the warm, spicy fragrance. Reduce heat to low once simmering begins.
  5. Allow the potpourri to simmer slowly for 20 to 30 minutes, adding more water as needed to prevent it from drying out and maintaining a steady release of aroma.
  6. Once the fragrant scent has filled your space to your liking, turn off the heat and carefully remove the spices and orange peel if desired, or leave them to simmer for more aroma.

Notes

Feel free to add a few drops of vanilla or orange oil if you'd like to boost the scent. Replenish water as needed to keep the aroma going all day. Always supervise the simmering pot to prevent it from drying out or scorching.
