Method
 

  1. Peel the orange and slice the peel into strips.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine the orange peel, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and nutmeg.
  3. Pour in the water, covering the ingredients.
  4. Place the saucepan on the stove over medium-low heat.
  5. Let the mixture simmer for 1-2 hours, checking periodically and adding more water if it evaporates below the level of the ingredients.
  6. Stir occasionally to help release the fragrances.
  7. As the simmering continues, the aroma will fill your home, creating a cozy atmosphere.
  8. You can use the potpourri for up to 2 hours, replenishing water as needed to maintain the fragrance and prevent burning.
  9. Once you’re done, discard the mixture and start a fresh batch whenever you want to fill your home with the smell of fall.

Notes

Feel free to add a few drops of vanilla or orange oil if you'd like to boost the scent. Replenish water as needed to keep the aroma going all day. Always supervise the simmering pot to prevent it from drying out or scorching.
