Overnight Vanilla Oats

This dish involves soaking oats in a mixture of milk, yogurt, and vanilla extract to create a creamy, pudding-like consistency. The oats absorb the liquids over several hours, resulting in a soft, textured breakfast with a subtle vanilla flavor, served chilled. The final appearance is a thick, smooth mixture often topped with fresh fruits or nuts.

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons

1 cups rolled oats, 1/2 cups milk, 1/4 cups plain yogurt, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
  2. Transfer the mixture into a clean jar or airtight container. Secure the lid tightly to prevent spills and ensure even soaking.
  3. Place the jar in the refrigerator and let it soak overnight, or for at least 5 hours, allowing the oats to soften and absorb the flavors. You should see a thickened, creamy consistency after soaking.
  4. Remove the jar from the refrigerator. Gently stir the oats to check for even distribution of moisture or add a splash of milk if desired to loosen the mixture.
  5. Scoop the soaked oats into bowls and top with fresh fruits, nuts, or additional sweeteners as preferred. Serve chilled with a spoon.
