Ingredients
  

  • 4 –6 cups water or enough to fully submerge fruits and spices.
  • 2 medium oranges sliced into rounds
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 8 whole cloves
  • 2 star anise pods optional
  • A pinch of ground allspice or 3–4 whole allspice berries optional

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Knife and chopping board
  • Measuring cup
  • Stove or induction cooktop

Method
 

  1. Pour 4 cups of water into a saucepan.
  2. Add orange slices, cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, and allspice.
  3. Heat until just steaming, then maintain a very low simmer to slowly release fragrance.
  4. Reduce heat and allow it to simmer on low.
  5. Add more water as needed and continue simmering for desired fragrance.

Notes

Feel free to customize by adding more citrus, balsamic vinegar, or other seasonal spices to make it your own holiday favorite.
