Ingredients

  • 4 cups water
  • 2 medium orange sliced into rounds
  • 4 stick cinnamon sticks
  • 8 whole cloves whole spice, add directly to water
  • 2 stars star anise optional for extra aroma
  • a pinch allspice optional

Equipment

  • Saucepan or large pot
  • Ladle

Method

  1. Combine the water, orange slices, cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, and allspice in a large saucepan. Place the pan over medium heat.
  2. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, allowing the spices to infuse the water with fragrant, spicy aromas. Watch for small bubbles and the steam rising from the surface.
  3. Let the spices simmer for about 20-30 minutes, gently releasing their flavors. Add more water if necessary to keep the level consistent.
  4. Occasionally stir the pot if you notice any spices sticking to the bottom, ensuring an even infusion of flavor.
  5. Once the aroma has filled the room and the orange slices have softened, turn off the heat. Carefully remove the cinnamon sticks, if desired, for a cleaner presentation.
  6. Pour the fragrant spicy water into mugs or bowls, allowing the oranges and spices to impart their warm, festive scents. Serve warm and enjoy the cozy atmosphere.
