Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh cranberries whole
  • 2 cinnamon sticks cinnamon sticks
  • 1 orange orange slices fresh, thinly sliced
  • 4 cloves whole cloves
  • 2 cups water plus extra if needed

Equipment

  • Small saucepan or pot
  • Ladle or spoon

Method

  1. Add the cranberries, cinnamon sticks, orange slices, and cloves to a small saucepan.
  2. Pour in two cups of water, enough to just cover the ingredients. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over low heat.
  3. Once bubbling begins, reduce the heat to very low to maintain a slow simmer without vigorous boiling.
  4. Allow the mixture to simmer quietly for about 20-30 minutes, letting the aromas develop and the cranberries soften and crackle.
  5. Check occasionally and add more water if the mixture begins to look dry or the ingredients shift away from the liquid surface.
  6. Once the scent is fragrant and the cranberries are bursting, turn off the heat and carefully ladle the mixture into a bowl or leave it in the saucepan for continued aroma.

Notes

Feel free to add extra cinnamon sticks or a splash of vanilla for a deeper scent. Keep an eye on the water level to prevent boiling dry. Refill with water as needed during simmering to keep the aroma strong.
