Ingredients

  • 1 large orange washed and sliced into rounds
  • 8 whole cloves preferably whole, for aromatic infusion
  • 4 cups water enough to fill the saucepan

Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Ladle

Method

  1. Place the water in a medium saucepan and bring it to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  2. Meanwhile, slice the washed orange into rounds, removing any seeds if necessary.
  3. Add the orange slices to the simmering water in the saucepan, spreading them evenly.
  4. Drop in the whole cloves, distributing them among the orange slices for aroma and flavor.
  5. Reduce the heat to low to maintain a gentle simmer, allowing the flavors to meld slowly.
  6. Let the mixture simmer uncovered for about 20 to 30 minutes, until the liquid is infused with a fragrant citrus and spice aroma and the slices are slightly translucent.
  7. Turn off the heat and carefully remove the orange slices and cloves with a ladle, if desired for serving, or leave them in for continued aroma and visual appeal.
  8. Serve the fragrant infusion warm, enjoying the cozy, vibrant citrus and spicy aroma that fills the space.

Notes

Keep an eye on the simmer to prevent burning or overcooking the citrus. Adjust cloves or water if the aroma becomes too overpowering. For additional warmth, sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon or add a splash of apple cider during simmering.
