Ingredients

  • 4 cups water enough to fill the saucepan
  • 2 large fresh apples sliced into rounds
  • 3 pieces cinnamon sticks whole sticks for aroma release

Equipment

  • Stovetop
  • Medium saucepan

Method

  1. Pour water into the saucepan and place it over medium heat on the stovetop.
  2. Add the cinnamon sticks to the water, then layer the sliced apples on top of the water, distributing them evenly.
  3. Turn the heat to low and let the mixture simmer gently; you should see occasional bubbling and a fragrant aroma filling the kitchen.
  4. Check the liquid level periodically and top up with a little hot water if it gets low, ensuring the ingredients stay submerged.
  5. Let the mixture simmer for about 20-30 minutes, during which the apples soften slightly and the spices infuse the water with warm aromas.
  6. Once the desired fragrance and flavor are achieved, turn off the heat and carefully remove the cinnamon sticks and apple slices if you prefer a clearer scent; otherwise, leave them to continue releasing aroma.
  7. Pour the fragrant liquid into a mug or bowl and enjoy the warm, spicy aroma filling your space.

Notes

Ensure to keep an eye on the water level during simmering to prevent burning, and add more hot water as needed. For extra warmth, add slices of citrus peel or a few drops of vanilla extract midway through simmering.
