Ingredients

  • 1 package slider buns preferably fresh bakery rolls
  • 1 1/2 cups barbecue sauce warmed before spreading
  • 2 cups cooked smoked ham shredded or sliced thin
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese or provolone/Monterey Jack
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter melted for brushing
  • 1 tsp onion powder optional, for depth

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Basting Brush
  • Serrated knife
  • Small saucepan

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Slice the slider buns in half horizontally with a serrated knife, keeping the top and bottom halves intact.
  2. Warm the barbecue sauce in a small saucepan over medium heat until it just starts bubbling, about 3-5 minutes. Stir occasionally to loosen it up.
  3. Spread a generous layer of the warm barbecue sauce evenly on the cut side of the bottom buns, covering all the surface for flavor and moisture.
  4. Layer the shredded or sliced ham evenly over the sauced bottom buns, creating a hearty filling that will soak up the flavors.
  5. Sprinkle the shredded cheese over the ham, spreading it out to melt into every bite once baked.
  6. Cover with the top buns, pressing down gently to compact the layers and help the cheese stick.
  7. Brush the tops of the buns with melted butter using a basting brush. This helps them turn golden and adds richness.
  8. Place the assembled sliders on the baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and the buns are golden brown.
  9. Remove the sliders from the oven and let them rest for 2-3 minutes. This allows the flavors to settle and makes them easier to serve.
  10. Slice the sliders into individual portions if desired, and serve hot while the cheese is gooey and the buns are slightly crispy on top.
