Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats preferably quick-cooking for best texture
  • 2 large fresh apples peeled and diced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar or maple syrup as a substitute
  • 2 cups milk dairy or plant-based
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract optional but adds warmth
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowls
  • Baking dish

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and butter a baking dish to prevent sticking.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats, cinnamon, and brown sugar for an even, fragrant dry mix.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter until well combined and slightly frothy.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and gently fold everything together until no dry streaks remain. The mixture should be thick but pourable.
  5. Stir in the diced apples, making sure they’re evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly with a spatula for a uniform layer.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbling around the edges. The scent of cinnamon and baked apples will fill the kitchen.
  8. Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes to settle; the edges will be crispy yet the inside tender and moist with a slight chew.
  9. Slice into squares and serve warm, optionally topped with nuts, honey, or a splash of cream for added indulgence.
