Ingredients

  • 4 cups water preferably filtered or distilled
  • 2 pieces fresh orange peel preferably from organic oranges
  • 3 sticks cinnamon whole sticks for maximum fragrance
  • 2 teaspoons whole cloves adds warm spiciness
  • 1 dash vanilla extract optional for added warmth

Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • Strainer

Method

  1. Fill the saucepan with water and set it over medium heat.
  2. Add the orange peel, cinnamon sticks, and whole cloves into the water, allowing their aromatic oils to infuse as the water heats up.
  3. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, listening for a soft bubbling sound, and watch as the water begins to turn fragrant and lightly steamy.
  4. Reduce the heat to low, ensuring the water stays at a gentle simmer without boiling over, and occasionally add a splash of water if it evaporates too quickly.
  5. Allow the mixture to simmer gently for about 20 to 30 minutes, during which the house will fill with a warm, spicy aroma and the ingredients may soften slightly.
  6. Once you’re ready to turn off the heat, strain out the larger spice pieces using a strainer, leaving just the fragrant scented water in the saucepan.
  7. Pour the infused water into a decorative bowl or return it to a heated simmer for continuous aroma spreading as desired.
  8. Enjoy the cozy, autumn-inspired scent as it gently wafts through your home, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere.

Notes

For extra fragrance, add a few drops of essential oil like eucalyptus or lavender during the simmering process. Keep an eye on the water level to prevent burning, and refresh with additional water as needed. You can also add dried citrus slices or other spices during simmering for varying seasonal scents.
